While our livelihood is dedicated to the international oil and gas industry, our roots actually run deep in the nonconventional gas fields of the Black Warrior Basin.
While working with across-the-line motor starters and controls in the coal bed methane (CBM) industry, Bobby Mason discovered that his variable frequency drive solution, which allowed a beam pump to operate without a dynamic brake chopper or resistors, could be applied to pumps that were de-watering methane gas wells. He soon realized that this automation solution was not just a local phenomenon; it could save customers energy and increase production throughout the oil and gas industry.
Mason and five employees launched SPOC Automation with the first SPOC product—the IronHorse beam pump drive. With their background in controls, Mason and his engineering team then introduced sensorless pump off control software (SPOC). The SPOC software was designed to reduce utility energy consumption and peak charges, and it set the standard for future products and the industry as a whole.
The Subduer ESP and HPS Series Drive soon joined the ranks of other SPOC products that have gone through an intense research, development and testing period in the field. This time of communicating and partnering with actual users is a central component of SPOC’s business, and it is something we take seriously. From punching code on a tailgate, to putting a unit on a trailer and taking it around the country for potential customers to try for themselves, the SPOC team is dedicated to the industry. And we take pride in our products and how they help you solve problems.
